Lunden De’Leon of Netflix’s Blackbear Chats Self-Care

In “Blackbear,” De’Leon portrays the role of Nurse London, a no-nonsense nurse, caring for her patient. On screen, black women are often portrayed as strong, unbreakable figures, but it is important that we remember that all women are human and our bodies require attention, love, care and maintenance.

As a busy actress, De’Leon understands the importance of finding balance between work and self-care. Here are a few methods of self-care Lunden implements to find balance and practice self-care living her busy life filming on set.

Prayer and Meditation

 “I always start my day with prayer and meditation. It helps me connect with God which helps me stay centered and positive while filming,” stated De’Leon

“There’s nothing more exciting than developing a strong character and taking her from script to screen,” says De’Leon. 
“I’ve had the opportunity to portray some very powerful women throughout my career and for that I am grateful .”

Sleep

“It’s hard to get eight hours of sleep with my busy film schedule. With that said, I try to get at least six to seven hours each night. That way, my body can rebuild itself and keep my immune system healthy,” remarked De’Leon.

Exercise:

 “I try to find time to squeeze in a workout everyday. Even while on set, I frequently hit up YouTube and find a good cardio workout. I normally mix up cardio with strength training and yoga. Staying in shape is essential in this business,” said Lunden

Making time for family: 

“It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with my busy shooting schedule. However, making time for family is a must. When I’m super busy and can’t spend quality time with family a simple FaceTime with mom makes life just right,” stated Lunden.
