No More Buyer’s Remorse: Upcycle

The older I get the more aware I become. I am aware of my spending, I am aware of what I buy and I am aware of what I throw away. Overall, I am a little bit more concerned about my decisions and how they impact others. Reduction of waste is always a good thing. That is why I am excited about brands like For Days and ThredUp! These brands allow me to be a bit more socially responsible and earn some extra cash!

The For Days Way of Doing Things

Scrolling through the For Days website you see fun images with big statements. The brand talks about eliminating clothing waste in order to benefit people and the planet. It claims that every item is 100% recyclable. With goals to minimize waste with things like reusable packaging and company-wide carbon offsets.

The Closed Loop System

For Days offers, “The Take Back Bag “. It is a circular revolution intended to end fashion waste. Here’s how it works:

1: Order a Take Back Bag

2: Clean out your closet

3: Send For Days your filled bag.

4: You’ll instantly earn $20 in Closet Cash credit towards your next purchase for every Take Back Bag you ordered.

For Days accepts all textiles, including socks, underwear, sheets, pillow cases, towels, linens, shoes, and handbags in any condition. Ripped, torn or stained, your oldies will get a new life with the help of For Day’s recycling partners and be diverted from landfills.

ThredUp and The Polka doted Bag

I have had the pleasure of using Thredup for several occasions. I was intrigued with the teal and white bag that came to me for free! All I had to do was fill the bag with clothes I did not want and send it back. And like magic, well, thanks to technology, my bag was processed, my clothes uploaded to the ThreadUp’s website and the clothing was sold!

More About The How

Aside from the best part, keeping clothes out of landfills, ThreadUp was actually super fun to use. Pictures of the garments ThredUp decided to sell were uploaded to my profile. Fun fact, I could actually customize the price for each garment. If that seems like to much work for you, don’t worry. The ThreadUp team has got you covered. Recommended prices appear for each garment as well.

I know you maybe wondering. Will all my garments get accepted? The fact of the matter is, probably not. ThreadUp has a well written article that discusses the quality standards it has for the garments they receive. If you want to receive back the garments they don’t select , then there is a paid option you can select when ordering your clean out bag.

I find baby steps such as these make big leaps for a better tomorrow. Let us know in the comments if you have used either one of these brands and elaborate on your experience.

xoxo
