What’s the most unexpected lesson you’ve learned since starting your business?
The most unexpected lesson I’ve learned is just how much work truly goes into building a business. I started with the dream of making a difference while creating financial independence and freedom to live life on my own terms. But I quickly realized entrepreneurship is a 24/7 commitment—it’s not just passion and purpose, it’s also long hours, sacrifice, and a whole lot of blood, sweat, and tears. It’s demanding, but it’s also deeply rewarding when you see the vision come to life.
What’s one stereotype about entrepreneurs that you’d love to break?
One stereotype I’d love to break is the idea that entrepreneurs have it all figured out. From the outside, people often assume that success came easily or that things were handed to us. The truth is, it takes constant work, resilience, and a willingness to fail, learn, and grow. Behind every “overnight success” is years of effort, sacrifice, and lessons learned the hard way.
What’s your go-to mantra or quote when the going gets tough?
My mantra is simple: “Take it one day at a time.” Entrepreneurship can feel overwhelming when you try to tackle everything at once. Reminding myself to focus on today—just the next step—helps me stay grounded, present, and in control, no matter how chaotic things get.
What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self before starting this journey?
I would tell my younger self to find a mentor early on—someone whose values, vision, and goals align with yours. Having the right guidance from the start can save you from a lot of costly mistakes and help you grow faster, both personally and professionally.
What’s the most “you” thing in your workspace (bonus points if it’s quirky or unusual)?
The most “me” thing in my workspace is a painting I created using Paint by Numbers. It’s a vibrant portrait of a woman in a mix of beautiful, bold colors—artistic, expressive, and full of life. It reminds me of beauty in diversity and creativity, and it perfectly reflects who I am at my core.
What’s one misconception people have about your industry that drives you crazy?
One of the biggest misconceptions about the aesthetics industry is that treatments make people look fake or overdone. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone’s definition of beauty is different, and my goal is always to create natural, balanced results that enhance—not change—someone’s features.
Another misconception is that this industry is all about money. While it can be financially rewarding, those who enter it for the wrong reasons often don’t last. This field is about caring for people, understanding their goals, and helping them feel confident. When your heart is in the right place, it shows in your work.
In a world full of trends, how do you keep your business authentic and true to your vision?
I stay true to my vision by focusing on inclusivity, care, and connection. From the beginning, my goal has been to create a space where everyone feels seen, valued, and welcome—regardless of skin tone, background, or beauty standard. In an industry that often chases trends or tries to fit a certain mold, I stay grounded by listening to my clients, creating personalized treatment plans, and highlighting their natural beauty. Authenticity, for me, means enhancing who you are—not changing it.
Can you share the story behind starting your business and what inspired you to take the leap?
My journey started from personal experience—struggling to find a provider who truly understood my skin and my needs. That challenge pushed me to become the provider I was looking for, someone who could serve and understand people from all walks of life. My love for art and my passion for helping others naturally led me to aesthetics, where science and creativity meet. I see it as beautiful medicine—the art of enhancing what’s already there and helping people feel confident in their own skin.
How do you stay motivated and innovative in your business?
I stay motivated by constantly reminding myself of why I started. My purpose has always been to fill a gap in this industry—to be the kind of provider who represents and understands people who often feel overlooked. That mission keeps me grounded and inspired. I’m also driven by my family—especially my son. I want him to see firsthand that hard work, integrity, and passion can create something meaningful and lasting. Every challenge becomes easier to face when I remember that I’m building not just a business, but a legacy.
How do you handle competition, and what sets your business apart from others in your field?
I don’t really view others in this industry as competition. Aesthetics offers so many different approaches and specialties that there’s truly room for everyone. I focus on collaboration over competition whenever possible, because together we can elevate the entire field.
What sets my business apart is my commitment to inclusivity, education, and a team-based approach. I take time to educate clients, listen to their goals, and create customized treatment plans that reflect their unique beauty. Those values—combined with a focus on care and collaboration—are what truly define Ellaqua Aesthetics.
Can you discuss any partnerships or collaborations that have particularly impacted your business?
One of the most impactful collaborations in my journey has been my mentorship with Candace Holyfield-Parker, also known as the Seven Figure Spa Chick. She has been instrumental in helping me take my business to the next level—keeping me focused, organized, and aligned with my vision. Through her guidance, I’ve accomplished things I once thought were out of reach. Her mentorship has truly shaped my growth as both a business owner and a leader, and I’m forever grateful for her influence.
What is one lesson you’ve learned through your entrepreneurial journey that you think everyone should know?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of investing in a mentor or coach. Having the right guidance can save you time, money, and unnecessary mistakes. I’ve also learned to stay authentic—don’t chase trends, because trends fade. Focus on your passion, stay grounded in your purpose, and remember your why, especially when things get tough. Entrepreneurship will test you, but if your foundation is rooted in purpose, you’ll always find your way through.
