If your business had a theme song, what would it be and why?

Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder

“Ain’t nothing gonna break my stride, nobody gonna slow me down, oh no…I got to keep on moving.”

This song, in particular this line, has popped in my head often during my entrepreneurial journey.  It feels like an anthem, a reminder that I can create anything I want, any way I want…I just have to keep moving forward.  It reminds me that I can fall, I can go through dark seasons, I can make mistakes…and as long as I stay connected to my heart and keep bravely taking steps forward, I’m going to be okay.  I especially hear it on days when I feel unshakable.  When I’m in such beautiful alignment with my desires and actions that I just know that it’s all a matter of when.  Not if.  I’m going to flourish.  And no one and nothing can stop me.

If you could have dinner with any entrepreneur (alive or dead), who would it be, and what
would be the first question you’d ask them?

Sara Blakely.  I’d ask her how she continues to redefine her love of creation, and how she feeds her creative self while honoring her internal and external changes and shifts.

What’s one stereotype about entrepreneurs that you’d love to break?

That there’s only one type of entrepreneur – the inspirational, all-or-nothing, super “risky,” revolutionary kind.  While this tends to be the most popular caricature of an entrepreneur, there are actually so many different types of business owners and they all do things a little differently.  And they can all have different definitions of “success.”

What’s one piece of advice you wish you could give your younger self before starting this journey?

Money will always work itself out, so don’t let financial fear hold you back from doing what your heart knows is right!

What’s the most “you” thing in your workspace (bonus points if it’s quirky or unusual)?

I record my meditations from my closet, so it’s full of messy clothes and shoes!  However, there’s one item I make sure to have with me when I record. It’s a drawing my oldest daughter did when she was 7.  I asked her to draw a picture of her dream home.  A year later, when we moved into our forever home, I found her drawing and realized her drawing was the spitting image of our new home. 💗

Can you describe a moment when you felt like giving up and how you pushed through?

Earlier this year, I was struggling really hard to stay focused and connected to my business. My team could handle 80% of the daily operations, and I was barely showing up for the other 20%.  I was definitely not showing up for the extra percentage that is needed in every business: marketing and strategic growth.  I was just maintaining.  I had days where I seriously considered the pros and cons of selling the company and unplugging from the world.  I felt empty, robotic and unclear.

So, I came inside to myself.  I did a lot of soul searching, asking myself what I really wanted, what was important to me, what felt good, and what did not.  I asked myself some hard questions, like do I have what it takes to get to the next level? And, what limiting beliefs are here that want to keep me small and “hidden?”  The process took months and was filled with meditations, journaling, walks in nature, talking things out with my most trusted people, and a lot of tears.

Slowly but surely, I kept seeing the same thing on the pages of my journal, kept hearing the same voice during my meditations, kept having the same vision while out in nature: I love what I’ve created.  I’m.  Not.  Done.

But that’s where the work began.  I knew I had to get clear about where I wanted to go now, what my new version of this brand was, and identify the people, products and processes that my business needed to get me there.  And, most importantly, I had to get really honest with myself about who I needed to become in order to breathe it all into creation.  Knowing that I was already her.  🙂

Today, I have a newfound love of what I do and how I do it.  It’s been a complete “rebirth” that feels refreshing and empowering.  And the fire in me is stronger than it has been since the beginning!
