Meet Dr. Sarepta Isaac
Dr. Isaac Sarepta is owner and founder of Serenity Podiatry and Med Spa, a private practice specializing in care for the feet. Dr. Sarepta began entrepreneurship with a mobile practice over four years ago and recently opened her first physical location last year.
Q: What factors in your life lead you to choose podiatry as a profession?
A: Family experiences of dealing with various debilitating foot conditions while growing up.
Q: What is the most common problem your patients face, in terms of self-care of their feet?
A: My patients mostly struggle with ways to properly care for their feet on a day by day basic. I.e., proper work shoe gear, foot hygiene and dealing with symptoms that may be presenting in the feet connected with chronic illnesses that they may have.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur?
A: The biggest challenges surround time management and work life balance. As an entrepreneur, you are never truly off and if not careful, work will take over your entire life. Balance is key.
Q: What problem does your brand solve?
A: We solve the problem of proper foot education and neglect in foot care. Many people are embarrassed of their feet, don’t know how to take care of them and simply never talk about them. We equip people with the education, resources and treatments for care for their feet. Hindsight is 20/20.
Q: What is one thing you would do differently, if you could go back in time and give yourself advice?
A: I would have slowed down to enjoy every part of my education journey. While in school, because its so challenging, I was eager to get out. But I’ve realized, even that time period that seemed excruciating, was a beautiful part of my journey.
Q: What made you decide to launch a product/s within your brand, outside of the practice?
A: I wanted to provide these foot care products to those who were not in my immediate area or could not get to the office.
Q: What is one thing that keeps you up at night?
A: Health disparities is one. The practice of medicine, within any specialty opens your eyes to the large social-economic disparities present in our society. My goal is to help close that gap with my specialty with education and resources.
Q: Who is one girl boss in which you look up to, and why?
A: Michelle Obama. The grace and pose she has been able to maintain, even under such immense pressure is so admirable.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for other women wanting to take a leap and start a business of their own? Or better yet, go into medicine?
A: Build thick skin and remember who you are. Challenges and challengers will come. Be prepared.
