What is your title?
Director of People & Culture, The Grove Resort & Water Park Orlando
Where are you from originally?
Born in Puerto Rico, I have lived in Florida for over 20 years
How long have you worked in the hospitality industry?
I’ve worked in hospitality for over 4 years.
Why did you want to work in this field?
I wanted to work in an industry that was a service to the community, hospitality gives you the opportunity to work with a diverse group of employees that are dedicated to the well-being of the guests.
What is your favorite part about your position?
P&C in the hospitality industry is fast paced. In this environment the P&C team has to ensure that employees feel engaged, valued, and heard. I enjoy the role that the P&C team has in this environment ensuring employees feel valued, which results in smooth operations and which in turn assists employees in providing exceptional guest experiences.
What does Women’s History Month mean to you, and why do you think it’s important to celebrate it?
Women’s History Month Month is a time to celebrate and learn, of our past and present diverse leaders. We remember and recognize great leaders in our society that through their achievements have moved our country forward and opened a path where there was none. We honor influential leaders who have made significant impacts in their fields.
If you could have dinner with any hospitality leader in the world, past or present, who would it be and why?
Juan Diego & Nicole Canahauti is a husband-and-wife team native Honduras. Their restaurant concepts highlight the abundance of our Hispanic flavors. With their restaurants they have created a cultural bridge that introduces taste and culture diners to the depth and complexity of the Hispanic cuisine. Their approach to menu innovation reflects years of restaurant operations, creating dishes that surprise while honoring our Hispanic heritage and serving the communities where they are established.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Arroz con Gandulez y Pernil, I would have a Puerto Rican holiday menu daily; arroz con gandules along with pernil (pork) is the national dish of Puerto Rico. It is a combination of rice and pigeon peas. Its popularity compares to no other dish in Puerto Rico. No matter the occasion, you will always find a caldero of arroz con gandules at every party or family gathering.
