Women’s History Month Feature
PaSH Magazine is celebrating Women’s History Month with a Q&A style mini-series highlighting women from many different industries making an impact in the world, their communities and for themselves. In this Q&A we will spend time with Monique L. Taylor
Meet Monique L. Taylor
Taylor started her tourism career in 2009 with the Bahamas Hotel Association, where she quickly discovered her passion for hospitality and innate ability to lead teams towards success. With this newfound love for guest service, she became an entry-level administrator at Comfort Suites Paradise Island and worked her way up to Executive Housekeeper, where she prided herself on creating opportunities for aspiring female hospitality professionals.
What is your name and title?
Monique L. Taylor, Asst. Director of Rooms at Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau.
Where are you from originally?
Nassau Bahamas.
How long have you worked in this industry?
Seventeen years starting out at The Bahamas Hotel Association.
What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for? How and when did you become interested in this profession?
Professionally, I am known as a leader who is passionate about creating opportunities for others and leading in a firm but fair manner. I believe in holding high standards while supporting my team with the guidance and accountability they need to succeed. I have a natural ability to bring out the best in people, and I am not afraid to engage in open and difficult conversations that foster growth and trust.
My journey into hospitality began in 2009 when a friend introduced me to an opportunity in the Sustainable Tourism Department at the Bahamas Hotel Association. What started as a new professional chapter quickly became a lifelong passion. From that moment to now, hospitality has truly been my calling; an industry where I can develop people, create meaningful experiences, and contribute to service excellence every day. This was further solidified in my title as Manager of The Year for the Cacique Awards 2017.
What is your role? What month/year were you hired? Who and what do you oversee?
My role is Operations- I was hired at Margaritaville on September 7, 2020. I oversee the operations of Housekeeping, Front Office, Guest Experience and “Live Life like a Song” our retail store.
What advice would you give to an aspiring female hospitality leader?
My advice – Be authentically you. Be bold. Break glass ceilings and remain humble. Confidence and humility can coexist, and together they create powerful leadership.
Invest in yourself. Educate yourself continuously and stay informed about the evolving trends and changes within the hospitality industry. Growth requires intention, discipline, and a willingness to adapt.
