Recently, I found myself in the position of urgently needing new work clothes. I needed at least 8 pieces I could mix and match while being comfortable, stylish and not spending too much money. Like many, I found myself needing to look like a professional and biker shorts and hoodies were not going to cut it. Overall, I had less than a week to pull a few looks together that were at a minimum smart-casual and not too formal (think executive attire), because I was not in the mood for suits and dresses.
How It Started
During my hunt for shoes, I turned my attention to Macy’s. Now, I will be honest, Macy’s has not been on my list for plus-size attire. I will shop Macy’s for home, men and shoes, but, plus-size clothing was not even on my radar. While I was wandering around, I saw this section that said Backstage, I felt like I was missing something, how had I previously overlooked this section? Desperate for answers, I asked the associate how long this section had been there, she stated several years. All I could say was, “All Righty Then”, lol.
I was excited to browse the racks of clothing that seemed endless. The only problem was now it was time to rush. The time was 5 pm and the store would close at 6 pm. Just my luck! So, because I am a pro, I swiftly went through several racks that had my size. I looked for basics and things that I knew would work for the office setting. I allowed myself twenty minutes to see it, pick it and throw it in the cart. That would then allow me thirty minutes to try my selection on, get dressed and run to stand in line.
With all the adrenaline clouding my judgement I was able to notice these three things about Macy’s Backstage selection:
Reasonable Prices
The majority of the items I selected were twenty-ish dollars. I noticed all the price tags were variations of $29.99 or $24.99. While I can’t complain about simplicity, I did wonder about the pricing model, but after all it is Macy’s. Finding anything under $50 that is not a belt or socks is rare.
A Plus-Size Selection
Like I stated above, I shop Macy’s for men’s attire, children, home, kitchen and assessors such as perfumes, purses and belts. I have browsed the selection in the past for plus-size items and just felt the clothes did not speak to me due to size, cut, style and color. But, when it came to the Backstage section, I was pleased with the styles I was able to fit. I found smart-casual and business-casual pants, tops and sweaters, all in my size!
Variety of Styles and Brands
I was happy to see a selection of familiar brands in the Backstage section of Macy’s. I saw one of my favs, Cable and Gauge and a new love, Floral Women and Ivy. There were skirts, pants, tops, shirts and blouses in my size. I was literally shocked!
So tell me, will you be heading to a Backstage location in the near future?
xoxo
